History of Cortegada

On this island, currently, there is a hermitage, ”hermitage of the Virgin of Miracles” to which many sick people made pilgrimages. This hermitage was built in the year 1334. The healing faith of this virgin made them go on a pilgrimage to the chapel.

For this reason, a small pilgrim hospital or ‘lazaretto’ was built next to the chapel to treat the sick.
